What Dog Grooming brush should I use for my Dog?

**First of all, take a look at the type of coat/hair your Dog has and ask a couple of questions as you go…  ( ** This article is intended as a guide, and if your Dog has any current/ongoing skin conditions or irritations, it is always better to consult a professional prior to making a purchase, to make sure the grooming tool/product isn’t going to aggravate/irritate the skin further. )

  • What type of coat does my Dog have?
  • Is your Dog used to being groomed?

It can be confusing when it comes to grooming our Dogs, especially if we have never owned a Dog before, and selecting the correct dog grooming tools can be tricky.

So, let’s start with dog grooming for Dogs with a smooth/flat very short coat:

Smooth/flat coat (very short coat, close to body)

Some Dog breeds with this type of coat are:

  • Pointer
  • Dalmatian
  • Greyhound
  • Boxer
  • Staffordshire bull terrier “Staffie”

Here are a few Dog grooming tools suitable for breeds with this coat type:

Rubber curry comb, Grooming Gloves, Furminator For Short Coats (various breed sizes available depending on breed of your Dog)

FURminator Rubber Curry Comb

FURminator Curry Comb

The Curry comb is fantastic for Dogs with this coat type, and it works with its moulded rubber teeth really stimulating the production of natural oils, promoting a healthy coat.

It gets rid of dust and loose Dog hair without damaging the coat, and easily glides over the contours of your Dog’s body.

This next grooming product is ideal if you are getting your Dog used to being handled and groomed, or indeed if you have a nervous Dog that may not like a strange implement close it.   As you get 2 gloves in the pack, you can easily rub your hands along your Dogs body without drawing attention to what you are actually doing, grooming.

The dead hair stays within the nodules on the gloves until you effortlessly wipe it off to continue grooming your Dog.

As these gloves are gentle, you can groom your Dog all over their body.
